Prof. Dr. Uğur Uslu Parazitoloji Uzmanı
Prof. Dr. Uğur Uslu is an academician who stands out with his studies in the field of parasitology and innovative biomedical treatment methods. He takes an active role in projects aimed at developing alternative and effective methods, especially in wound treatment. In 2004, the use of medical maggots (larvae) in wound cleaning was approved by the FDA, and in Turkey, this method was approved by the Republic of Turkey with the regulation dated October 27, 2014. It has been accepted by the Ministry of Health within the scope of Traditional and Complementary Medicine practices. Studies in this field offer an important alternative, especially in the treatment of resistant and chronic wounds. Prof. Dr. With the nanofiber wound dressing developed within the scope of the project in which Uğur Uslu took part; It is aimed to treat necrotic, purulent, gangrenous wounds, diabetic feet, pressure ulcers, burns and abscesses quickly and effectively. In this innovative approach, Larval Debridement Therapy (LDT) method is applied by combining nanofiber material with the secretions of aseptic larvae of the Lucilia sericata species. It is known that LDT is a safer, lower-cost and faster recovery method compared to classical treatments. This project, carried out in collaboration with industry and university; Istanbul Medeniyet University, Selçuk University, Erciyes University and Klass Medical Device San. Eng. Ltd. Ltd. carried out in partnership. The TÜBİTAK-supported project aims to produce a high value-added health technology that will be developed with local and national resources. Prof., Head of the Parasitology Department of Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Uğur Uslu also serves as the project manager and leads the studies carried out in the Aseptic Medical Larva Laboratory within BİLTAM. Prof. Dr. Uğur Uslu; He takes an active role in the scientific evaluation and implementation processes of projects developed in the fields of parasitology, biomedical innovation, wound treatment and health technologies, and plays an active role in the project monitoring, academic compliance approval and audit processes in the Scientific Board of our innovation center.
